Museums and Collections
Introduction

In no other part of Europe except the alpine areas and foothills of the Veneto and especially in the provinces of Vicenza, Treviso and Belluno, and Venice, is there a territory so deeply marked today by the historical memory of the events, and a territory by the works and events that occurred during the First World War. It is these areas of the upper Veneto that present a great range ot museums and collections of the Great War, preserving the material evidence of an immense documentary heritage.

It is usually small structures which, on the whole and with the natural projection onto the territory of the vast "outdoor museum" of the mountains of the Veneto, create a high symbolic value and a moment of strong recognition of the citizen-consumer.
Their predominant deployment along the front line means they are always regarded as necessary reference points for a network of aficionados, collectors and lovers of the subject.



They are appearances in any way directly related to the phenomenon that is recently taking a particularly importance with implications for the cultural and economic plane, namely the increase in the foothills of the Veneto of initiatives and restorations and improvements of artifacts of the Great War.
Activities that are helping to mature that sensitivity, and the awareness that the remains of products manufactured during the war by the belligerent armies constitute a cultural heritage to be protected, with a heritage of social utility and economic significance.
The proposal for coordination of museums and collections in the provinces of the Veneto seeks the establishment of a network that is able to provide for the settlement of measures to safeguard materials and testimonies of the Great War by encouraging their utilization, and the creation of an ideal reference point for the vast world of collectors and enthusiasts.



A great historical operation of improvement, therefore, able to respond to museums' questions on research, teaching, and proper disclosure, and at the same time in the territory for requests of memorial tourism, which is constantly growing in recent years.
