Ortigara - Monte Chiesa

"The battlefield"

Card
Mount Chiesa became the "memorial" of the 17th Slovenian regiment of Lubiana which was lined up during the month of June 1916 together with a unit from Bosnia-Herzegovina and from Styria. It was indeed the Lubiana regiment that organized the front and back lines; important relics are still visible of that presence, like the command barracks or the so called "Dolina degli Sloveni" ("The Slovenian's Dolina") and the complex system of cave tunnels and posts of the Thurmau Tunnel bearing the name from the commander of the Ventour von Thurmau regiment. The peak was never directly attacked by the Italian troops for its impervious position.
