Forte Campolongo

"The highland forts"

Card
Fort Campolongo, twin of the Verena fort, built on overhanging rock over Val d'Astico at altitude 1720 m, is surely, after fort Punta Corbin, the one best preserved.
Presently, one of the two trails of Sentiero della Pace that from the near Vezzena plain (in the Trentine territory) crosses the Highland in opposite directions, ends up in the fort's surroundings.

The impressiveness of the structures surely justifies an appropriate intervention aimed at recuperating the more degraded parts (the barracks and the covering) and most of all a cleaning intervention of the rubble and of the vegetation in the courtyard, in the corridors of the main structure and in the powder magazine in order to permit a visit of the complex in total safety.
It was built between 1912 and 1914 and was armored with 4 cannons of 149 S placed on rotating domes 180 mm thick.
