The great War

Outline of the place:
In the characteristic Borgo di Malanotte, the offensive action of the British troops was played out. The British, after the taking of the island of Papadopoli, broke through the river and placed the 7th Austro-Hungarian division in difficulty. One of the shooting centers of the imperial artillery was located in the district, sheltered in a subterranean bunker that is still conserved today: to provide the soldiers with time to withdraw to the reserve positions, it was decided to resist to the bitter end around the Borgo Malanotte. On the 27th of October, encouraged by having taken the first line in embankment with relative ease, the British soldiers launched themselves against the district and were able to take it but at the loss of many lives. The area was repeatedly lost and regained thanks to the hard reciprocal counterattack until16.00hrs, when it fell definitively into the hands of the British.
The battle of Malanotte was the only real obstacle met by the attackers who in only a few days also reached and overcame the second and last line of defense of the adversary.
