The great War

Outline of the place:
Immediately after the end of the conflict, a sort of pilgrimage to the areas affected by the conflict began: veterans and family members of the fallen soldiers moved from one cemetery to another searching for the burial place of a dead comrade in arms or a relative.
A need was created thereby to demonstrate the respect of the nation towards its fallen heroes: the original cemeteries were removed and the remains transferred to monumental areas that also became instruments of propaganda for the legend of the dominant and glorious Italy, which was particularly highlighted during the fascist period. All of the symbolic places of the conflict were exalted in this form of sacredness that even today dominates the area in architectural impressiveness and particularity. In the shrine of Fagarè della Battaglia, the remains of more than ten thousand soldiers of the III army rest.
Two pieces of wall are preserved in glass reliquaries to the side of the shrine that have some phrases written by soldiers during the battle of the Solstice (15th-23rd June 1918): the same phrases were frequently used during the fascist period to exhort people to fight and place the swagger of the regime in relation to the war glories only just passed.
