Places and regions / Monument to the 7th British div. / Maserada sul Piave
The great War
Outline of the place:
Next to two minor monuments that commemorate the heroism of the infantry of the Venetian and Caserta divisions in June of 1918 and the boldness of the 44th Artillery regiment, a white prismatic stem commemorates the memory of the passing of the 7th British division.
The troops of King George succeeded in forcing the first branch of the Piave only thanks to the exceptional work of the Italian pontooneers, always remembered with admiration in the Anglo-Saxon memoirs. With a complex stratagem, an equipment bridge was prepared, built and used during the night and immediately disassembled and hidden at the break of day.
The British artillery demonstrated their valour and ability providing, in concert with the Italian army, a huge and effective fire cover to the troops in action without having had the opportunity to try the usual test shots.
