Outline of the place:
The current of the Piave slows close to where it enters the sea and generates, as do all rivers, a series of bends that describe its course: one of the first bends has always been that of Zenson, held between high embankments. It was to witness bloody and blazing battles more than once in 1917-18, simultaneous to the three main battles that took place along the river.
The dramatic cruelty of the war placed the soldiers face-to-face and sheltered under the same embankment, separated only by a few square meters of earth. The Austro-Hungarians in particular suffered huge losses as the bend was circumscribed and subjected to ferocious bombardment that however meant the victory, also bloody, of the Italian armies.
