Places and regions / The King's observatory / Crocetta del Montello
The great War
Outline of the place:
Amongst the ruins of an agricultural building located on the summit of Montello, the Italian generals built a bunker destined to be used as an observatory: the extensive views of the Quartier del Piave and the Solighese hills allowed the movements of the adversaries troops to be observed and the visual traces of the preparations understood.
The observatory was used several times by King Vittorio Emanuele III and was the location chosen to aid the action on the Piave in October of 1918, at the beginning of the “Battle of Vittorio Veneto”.

Not to be missed:
Montebelluna / Military fountain.
Interesting construction built by soldiers to supply troops and packhorses in movement on Montello with water. The water supplies were one of the main logistical considerations, given that it was the fate of the war to be fought most severely in karst areas and, therefore, low in surface water.
