The great War
F. Baracca Temple
Outline of the place:
A circular temple enclosed by a curtain of cypresses marks the place in which the plane of Major Francesco Baracco, the most victorious of the Italian pilots of World War I, crashed.
The manner of his death is still the cause of historical debate: the plane’s emblem, a prancing horse, was adopted (with the permission of the mother of Francesco Baracca) by Enzo Ferrari and became the symbol and brand of the most prestigious automobile manufacturer in the world. Aviation underwent a powerful development during the conflict even at the cost of a huge loss of human life due to the inadequacy of the project and weakness of the equipment as well as the manner of fighting, which was so epic that the aviators became known as “cavaliers of the sky”.
