The great War
Rocca
Outline of the place:
When war was declared every inch of the territory was exploited to achieve a tactical advantage: the hills of Cornuda, close to Piave and with an excellent view towards the southern slopes of the Grappa and the Montello, were immediately chosen as important look out points for observing the positions and the activities of the adversary. The church of the Rocca, known as a sanctuary of Our Lady of Rocca and built on the ruins of a medieval tower, was used as an observatory without delay. Naturally, the adversary knew of the needs of the Italians and placed the area under constant shelling aimed at disturbing the movements and making the area dangerous to use.
The church was hit numerous times suffering serious damage equal to that suffered by many other precious Treviso historic-artistic patrimony of the time.
