The great War

Outline of the place:
At the end of 1917, France sent an expeditionary force that, together with its British counterpart, intended to make clear to the adversaries the complete cohesion and collaboration amongst the allies. The events of Caporetto accelerated the preparatory war manoeuvres and in December of the same year the French effectively retook Mount Tomba; in 1918 together with the Italians, the French broke through the Piave at Vidor and attacked the positions of Mount Perlo, entering Valdobbiadene.
The shrine built after the end of the Great War amongst the slopes of Monfenera and the banks of the Piave is the final resting place of over one thousand foreign soldiers in memory of the Italo-French military brotherhood.
Not to be missed:
Onigo di Pederobba / Monument to the Italian Soldier.
The “Monument to the Italian Soldier”, a group of eight bronzes that represent symbolic moments of the war experience, was erected in 1988 on the edge dominating the right bank of the Piave.
