Outline of the place:
Hiking along the Val delle Mure is a pleasurable experience immersed as it is in splendid beech woods spaced out around fields and mountain huts.
On closer inspection, however, the visitor can make out the pointed rocks of the tunnels, the grassy traces of trenches and paths as well as innumerable conical depressions that are a result of the explosions sustained. This was one of the main tracts of area immediately behind the lines, stripped by the bombs and torn by paths and fields of barbed wire: here are the first war cemeteries, the small first aid posts, the reserve troops waiting for the counter attack orders towards the surrounding peaks. The contrast between the serene silence that can be enjoyed today and the echo of the shouts and thunder of the Great War is all the more striking.

Massiccio del Grappa / Mule track
A military mule track leaves from Covolo in Crespano del Grappa and boldly ascends towards the lines of battle up above.

Pian de la Bala / Meatte Path.
A small panoramic road between the Grappa peak and the Val delle Mure is the starting point of the “ Meatte Path”, an evocative defensive military road hewn between the rocks and the overhanging rocks that allowed the transit of troops and packhorse to be protected from the adversaries artillery shots.
