The great War
Wounded art
Outline of the place:
Not only the geography of the territory fell victim to the offences of the conflict but also its historic and artistic patrimony, which is particularly rich and diffuse in the area of the Treviso. When the shelling began on Possagno in November of 1917, the thoughts of many ran to the works of Canova conserved in the gipsothèque: the sculptures injured by the force of the TNT were later located and removed from the ruins with the help of the soldiers. An excellent exhibition documents the salvage and protection operations enacted for the works of art, a hitherto not very well known but nevertheless important chapter in the history of the Italian war.

Not to be missed:
Crespano del Grappa / Great War documentation centre.
Located in the centre of the town, this offers a rich collection of objects and documentation on the war actions carried out on the dominating mountain.

Borso del Grappa / The "Strada del Generale Giardino".
The “Strada del Generale Giardino” is named after the Commander of the Army of Grappa and is one of the many access roads to the mountain created during the conflict. Second only in importance to the “strada Cadorna”, this was one of the most direct logistics lines towards the peak of Grappa.
